VeriSign, the Registry Operator for the .COM domain, is increasing the annual registration price to 10.26 USD, exclusive of any other fee, including the ICANN Variable Registry-Level Fee.


The wholesale price of .com domains was frozen by the U.S. government at $7.85 per year in 2012. It didn't increase again until September 2021, when prices were increased annually: $8.39 in 2021, $8.97 in 2022, and $9.59 in 2023. Then they increase to $10.26 on September 1, 2024. Verisign has a contract with our mutual regulator ICANN to have .com pricing go up by about 7% in each of the last four years of its six-year contract renewal. This year marks the final of those four years for the current contract. So the price should be fixed at $10.26 for the next couple of years. We do not have a plan to increase our price yet but it may come at a later date.

The 10.26 USD price Verisign charges is the price registrars like Dynu or Godaddy need to pay to register a .com for a given customer. You may see many registrars offering a .com domain for cheap such as $5, they'd be losing money to register the domain name on your behalf and will likely make it up by a higher service fee in related services such as hosting or support.

If you are considering purchasing a .COM domain name, we suggest that you do so before the price goes up. If you own a .COM domain name and it is in active use, you should grasp the opportunity and renew it for a longer term to take advantage of the lower price.
